Top eats in Beaune

Beaune – the capital of Burgundy wine – a beautiful walled city of a million burgundy bottles – all hidden in the underground cellars. If you have the great wines, then you have to have the top restaurants to pair…

Here a a few of my favourites:

Ma Cuisine – Passage Sainte Hélène- Beaune

My opinion: Stuck in a hidden passageway, this little gem of a restaurant has not only superb quality local dishes, but also an incredible wine menu from 13€ to 6500€ bottles.

Only advise…book in advance. They don’t make them loke this anymore…

Le Bistro – Hotel de la Poste

Another favourite. Belle Epoque style restaurant mixing traditional cuisine with contemporary “art deco”, in the 1920’s style. The menu caters for all tastes and budgets. Expect to find my local “vignerons” lunching here.

Le Bistro de l’Hôtel – rue Samuel Legay

My opinion: Right in the center, 100m from the famous Hospice de Beaune, this bistrot belonging to the hotel de Beaune has a lounge and two private rooms which are ideal for private aperitifs or evening events. Fresh local produce, traditional food composed of fish, Bresse chicken and Charolais meat.

Le Caveau des Arches  – Boulevard Perpreuil – Marc Gantier

My opinion: This restaurant is situated in the former 15th century ramparts of the fortified town. The chef cooks delightful lcal specialities (snails, boeuf bourguignonne) as well as fish dishes. Great setting except if you’re claustrophobic…

Le Comptoir des Tontons – rue Faubourg Madeleine

My opinion: Fun “bistro” with a very warm atmosphere, organic local and traditional dishes. You get a great welcome and superb service. Not expensive…well worth the try.

Le Fleury – Place Fleury

My opinion: a very elegant restaurant, fantastic food, but choose this one if you’re not in a hurry. Good food should not be rushed! Authentic dishes and new creations. A  little expensive, but well worth it.

Le Gourmandin – Place Carnot

My opinion: small, cosy and friendly bistrot in the heart of Beaune. You can choose from Burgundy or Rhone dishes. If you’re in a hurry, or if you want to take your time. Very “parisien”.

Loiseau des Vignes – rue Maufoux

The emblematic and depply regretted chef Bernard Loiseau lives on throughh his restaurants, carefully maintained by his wife Dominique. This is elegance and tradition at its best. If you want a name that goes with the cuisine, eat here. Best book in advance.
